Description:

Anse Banane is located on the east coast of La Digue, and overlooks the Indian Ocean, as well as four of La Digue’s neighbouring islands: Felicité, Marianne, Grande Soeur, and Petite Soeur. The water here isn’t particularly deep, so is not the best for swimming. The beach surface is also slightly different from the fine, white sand that many of La Digue’s other beaches offer, as it is slightly coarser here, making it less suitable for families than other options on the island.

Getting to the beach is relatively simple, and can be done by car (taxi), by bike, or on-foot: simply follow the road from La Passe to the north-east. Almost all visitors come by bike or on-foot, and frequently visit Anse Banane as part of a trip across the northern coast of the island.

Anse Banane is probably best-known for its views, but also offers a few small tourist shops, as well as a small restaurant, Chez Jules, which can be found on the beach. This small snack bar is very popular, offering fresh juice and locally-sourced fruits. Guests can even enjoy lunch and dinner there if they ask. In fact, the majority of visitors to this beach will probably spend some time in the this snack bar, and the area around here is the busiest section of the beach, with the remaining area remaining largely deserted.

Anse Banane offers views over the ocean, as well as enough facilities to ensure a comfortable visit, making it a good prospect for exploration and photography. While not the best beach for swimming or snorkelling, it offers enough to visitors to hold its own compared with some of the island’s other beaches, making it a worthwhile addition to La Digue’s selection of beaches.

On the slopes of the Nid d'Aigle lies this snackbar, reached after a challenging climb. That said, it's well worth it thanks to the incredible view. If you want to stay for the incredible sunset then we recommend taking a taxi back down, or at least being very careful, as the way can be dangerous at night due to poor visibility in the dark!
