Location & map

The Seychelles, an idyllic island state in the western Indian Ocean, fascinates with its composition of around 115 islands, including 42 granite islands and 73 coral islands. These natural wonders are divided geographically into the Inner and Outer Islands:

  • Inner Islands:

The Inner Islands of the Seychelles consist of granite islands and the Northern Coral Islands. These include the four largest islands of the Seychelles - Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and Silhouette.

  • Outer Islands:

The Outer Islands of the Seychelles include the Southern Coral Islands, the Amirantes and the Alphonse, Farquhar and Aldabra groups.

The archipelago of the Seychelles, strategically located between the 4th and 10th degree of latitude south of the equator, covers a land area of 455 km² and an impressive sea area of 390,000 km². The Republic, which is topographically part of the African continent, lies 480 to 1,600 km from the east coast of Africa and is part of the Mascarene Ridge, a submarine sill that is also close to island states such as Madagascar, Mauritius and the Comoros.
