Plant Trees with the Terrestrial Restoration Action Society of Seychelles (TRASS)
Who is TRASS?
The Terrestrial Restoration Action Society Seychelles (TRASS) was founded in 2009 on Praslin, after continuous erosion and forest fires had already had a large impact on the nature. The organisation’s aim is to replant trees in the affected areas. 15,000 endemic plants are cultured every year for this purpose.
Besides the voluntary tree and mangrove planting activities, TRASS also manages the largest tree nursery in the country in Fond B’Offay, which can be visited by both locals and tourists.
TRASS also works on research and study to improve the success rate of the tree nursery and is also active on other neighbouring islands such as Curieuse.
Healthy forests and swamp areas play a decisive role in the protection of the island from the effects of climate change, erosion, and fires. TRASS plays a leading role in reducing the impact of these problems.
Are you interested in helping out?
You can help the volunteer team of TRASS and support them with planting trees in the Seychelles yourself.
If you pay a visit then you will get an overview of how the organisation works and even contribute by helping to plant some endemic plant species yourself.
The activities begin with an introduction by one of TRASS’ engaged volunteers. Your participation allows you to take part in a nature protection project that has planted 24,923 trees in the last 4 years thanks to 1,166 volunteers.
You will also get an insight into the flora of the Seychelles, as well as the dangers that exist to the environment and the meaning behind these nature protection activities.
