Welcome on board the spacious Catlante 600 catamaran! To ensure maximum enjoyment of the tour, the captain and hostess will begin by outlining the rules for life on the catamaran, as well as show you around the ship. Once you’ve got the hand of everything, they’ll set off from Mahé on the short trip over to the Sainte Anne Marine Park. The park’s eponymous island was the first that the French colonised in 1750, before they even colonised Mahé. More than 150 different types of fish live in the incredible underwater world that surrounds the island, thanks in part to the high levels of environmental protection in the region. Once the ship stops, you’ll really feel like you’ve arrived in paradise. Put on your diving mask, snorkelling kit, and flippers and off you go!
Day 2 (Sunday): Sainte Anne - Praslin
After a delicious breakfast and a morning dip in the natural aquarium that is the Indian Ocean, the tour will continue towards Praslin, the second-largest of the Seychelles’ islands. Praslin lies around 45 km (approx 28 miles) north-east of Mahé, and is just 10 km long and 3.7 km wide (6.2 x 2.2 miles). Once there, you’ll anchor in the incredible Anse Lazio bay, one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world. The fine white sand here is sure to impress you with its purity! While on the island, you can also take the opportunity to enjoy Praslin in its entirety (island-tour not included in the cruise price). Another jewel of the island is the incredible Vallée de Mai nature reserve, which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. If the Garden of Eden were real, it would probably look something like the Vallée de Mai. This large palm-tree forest is the home of the legendary Coco de Mer, which is the plant with the largest seeds in the world, and which can grow to heights of up to thirty metres (100 ft). The forest is home to a total of six different species of palm tree that are unique to the archipelago. Besides that, the impressive granite formations on the beaches, the fresh scents of the island, the picturesque palm trees, and the incredible twilight of the sunset will give you the impression that you’re in a whole other world. Enjoy your evening meal and spend the night anchored in the bay.
Day 3 (Monday): Praslin - La Digue
Early in the morning, the boat will set sail for the next stop on your tour, the legendary island of La Digue. This island is home to the incredible Anse Source d’Argent, one of the most-photographed beaches in the world. In fact, it’s so beautiful here that you might even wonder how such a place can really exist. La Digue is an environmentally-protected region, and home to one of the rarest bird species in the world, the black flycatcher. The island also has a huge variety of orchards, vanilla plants, hibiscus, carnivorous plants, and much more to boot. The island is best-discovered by bike or by the more traditional ox-cart. Further attractions include a traditional wharf and a copra factory - a material made of dried coconut oil. And, further inland, there are a number of giant tortoises to discover. Finally, the colonial ‘Emanuelle’ house is on the island, where the famous film of the same name was filmed.
Day 4 (Tuesday): Coco - Curieuse
On Tuesday morning, the catamaran will set sail for Coco Island, about 7 km (4 miles) north of La Digue. Near to Coco Island lie the small islets of Felicité and its sister islands, which have been a national Marine Park since 1996. This spot is a great place for snorkelling. After a morning spent exploring the beautiful coral underwater world here, the boat will sail to the third island of the day, Curieuse. Here is the place to discover the giant tortoise, of which there is a huge population on the island, so much so that you can meet them all over the land here. There is also a breeding station on the island for the hawksbill turtle. The evening meal will take place anchored at Curieuse, where you will also spend the night.
Day 5 (Wednesday): Curieuse - Saint Pierre
Depart Curieuse in the morning and sail to Saint Pierre, well-known for its coconuts and granite formations. The island is located in the Cote d’Or bay of Praslin, and is an absolutely perfect spot for snorkelling or swimming. This should be a day of relaxation, rounded off by a beautiful sunset on the beach. The boat will spend the night anchored offshore from one of Praslin’s beaches.
Day 6 (Thursday): Praslin - Cousin - Mahé
After breakfast and a quick swim in the morning, the catamaran will set forth to Cousin, a few miles north of Praslin, beside Cousine island. This was named an environmentally-protected region in 1975 by Birdlife International thanks to its 25 000-strong population of birds, including rare species such as the Seychelles warbler and the Seychelles turtle dove, a particularly endangered species. Sometimes, you can also see a small colony of tortoises and geckos. We’d recommend a trip to this ‘Bird Paradise’, where you’ll discover five different types of bird that live in the region. Later in the day, you’ll sail over to the main island of Mahé, with a beautiful view of Beau Vallon beach, where you can enjoy a variety of activities, including watersports, bars, shops, and relaxation. Evening meal and night will both be spent in Beau Vallon bay.
Day 7 (Friday): Mahé
In the morning you will reach one of the most beautiful bays of Mahé, from there, you could decide to visit Victoria, the small capital of the island. After the evening spent on St. Anne or on Eden Island, the final meal will be served on board before the last night on St. Anne or on the VPM base on Eden Island.
